My latest purchase, I have purchased the New Pink Blackberry Pearl from Verizon. I previously owned the Blackberry 8830 and was very pleased with it and the features, however previously having a Treo, a Motorola Q and the 8830, I really was longing for a PDA that wasn’t so large in size, that would do everything the larger models would do. The Blackberry Pearl was a perfect fit and I have been anxiously awaiting my upgrade.
The Good:
The Pearl is small, and very thin. It’s only slightly wider than the Motorola Q. A feature that I love since mine is usually in my pocket, not on a clip. Even for it’s size, the features between the 8830 and the Pearl are almost identical. E-mail, internet, syching calendars and task work beautifully. The Pearl features a camera, which the 8830 does not have and the quality is great for a cell phone camera. This is the first time that I have used a condensed keyboard. I am use to a full key board, but after only two days, the Pearl adjusted and pretty accurately guesses what I am trying to type. The feature of the blackberry, which is one of my favorites is that I can set all my messages to go into one place. Text, MMS, and all e-mail accounts arrive in one location and I can respond from one location.
The Bad:
My first Blackberry Pearl broke in only two hours. I had to return it for a new one. I am giving it only a second chance, and they are giving me 30 days with the second one, so I am making sure that it holds up for all of my needs within that 30 days. There is a significant difference in using a Enterprise Server vs. using Blackberry mail. This is the first time using a blackberry and not having my data synching with a BES Server or Exchange. This is not a fault of the Pearl, this would work the same on the 8830. E-mail is not immediate, but it does arrive promptly.
We are on day 3 and so far, so good. I will post more if things change.
