I was asked today “What is RSS?” so I figured I would post some information on this.
RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication. RSS is everywhere and is growing. I have been using RSS feeds for quite some time. I subscribe to quite a few too and growing. I have them set in my news section of inflight you can find here as a example.
I also started using this program RSS Popper What this will do is add another folder called RSS to your outlook and you can set as many RSS feeds that you want in many different catagories and it will bring each feed into your e-mail just like a e-mail but keep it organized. So you can forward your news, favorite web sites post, anything you want right from your e-mail.
Rainbowfly.net and all my personal sites have these feeds. You can find all of our feeds on the front page of the websites. This is also a great way to bring outside content to your website which can be very beneficial to visitors of your website. Most CMS programs create these feeds for you automatically. Invision to my knowledge does not. We have a gem known as dammitjanet who created ours. Blogger and any other kind of blog service also creates them.
Yahoo also offers RSS homepages, which you can create your own news page, along with all of yahoo’s features. You can edit your own page by going to My Yahoo, on Yahoo, or by clicking here.

Google has Personalized Home Pages as well. You can add you own feeds, or pick from theirs along with other Google Services. I’m sure more will come in the future but this is pretty cool. You need a gmail account, the same as yahoo, if anyone needs one let me know. You can get to this service by going here:

This elimiates the hassle of going from site to site and viewing webpages, those days are gone. You can bring them all to you in one space and keep up to date.

I am NOT a expert, I just know how to utilize them for my needs, and watch and read what is going on. If you have any questions just ask. If I don’t know the answer, I will point you in the direction of who does.
